Nice to see Wally on board!I've been off the radar recently having gone through redundancy twice in 10 months and having to travel a bit to keep the mortgage paid!Mac we had a few good sessions down your part of the world if I remember one of which was when Arsenal luckily beat Liverpool 2-1
in the Cup Final and I was the only Liverpool supporter,my other memory was of Mac getting stabbed in the back when someone fainted just as we were about to go on parade and caught the aforementioned with his bayonet! We thought it was hilarious naturally!!Belated Happy New Year to all.

Hello 66c, Bob Mcgowan who was normally called Mac, a former print apprentice who also played a lot of Squash.
Have spent the last 20 years running a print company in Orpington. Took voluntary redundancy in 2006 and moved to my birthplace of Plymouth to take life easy.
I returned to Chepstow as an instructor in 1976 and remember meeting Jeff Winter at the reunion.I see he is off to meet Dave from B company.
Would love to hear from anyone else who remembers me in those distant days.Seeing those old photographs which i still have brings back many memories.
Regards
Bob McGowan (also known as Wally by 42 Svy Engr regt)

Hi John well green fingers aye you have not told me what you keep in the shed? Great photo's of your daughters wedding in Canada.
(Posted on 2008-08-30 04:08:00 by ) -
Ray,
Sorry mate, in this day of credit crunch and economic decline one has to watch the penny's and growing a few veg on the allotment. It also keeps me out of trouble and besides a few games of golf and the occasional work out in the gym keeps me fit???? I also help Dad out on his plot, not as fit as he was when he was in the Army Physical Training Corps, still young at 84.

Hello to all,
Sons 21st bbq sat night, 85 people turned up, the weather turned nasty for about half an hour but we were all under canvas so it did not matter, the booze and food they got through was staggering, last one left at 0345hrs. It took us all day to clear up but it was worth it. Thanks for coming Paul sorry I did not spend a lot of time with you but you know how it is, you try to get around to everyone as well as sorting things . When we were having our photo took together my cousin Lynn jumped in as well, she likes a good photo does our Lynn. sorry about that .All the best to all, going in to training now for the BOBA weekend, Geoff.

Great BBQ at Geoffs on Saturday, got seperated from the bar when it rained but had enough supplies to last until it stopped. Many thanks Geoff and Sharron for a great do, see you at the BOBA reunion Geoff.

Hi John try www.jumeirahgolfestates.com
Yes Georges was outside the Gate the Riggies stayed there this year.
Yep our first night out in Hameln over the back wall taxi to the Strip joint and thats how we continued he he.
Dont forget the Hole in the Wall and the Ice Box.
A 2009 trip to Hameln is tempting but Hotel Bookings must be done 6 months in advance.
(Posted on 2008-08-22 08:34:00 by ) -
Ray, You must be the most travelled golfer of 66C, and I thought you just talked a good round. Did you manage a few holes in Hamburg?????????!!!!!!
Unfortunatly due to family and other comitments ie the allotment, I have only managed a few games this year. I hoped to play more but it just hasn't gone to plan, still a few months left this year.
Had a look at the Green Lantern site yesterday, don't recognise anybody in any of the photos, to be honest I didn't recognise the frontage of the place.
Was is Georges bar just outside Gordon Bks that we use to get plastered in during our early days. The first few days in hameln are still fresh in my memory and our trip to the Cameno!! is that how you spell it?

Oh John yes in my pioneer days in Dubai we played on sand at the Dubai Country Club which has now been flattened to develope Meydan a Megga Horse Racing and Golf Complex www.meydan.ae
As Veteran Golfers Stu and Geoff know all about Dubai's Great "Green" Golf Gourses and their 1st Class Club Houses.
Take the Dubai Desert Classic one course designed by Monty he is designing another. Tiger is topping up his $Millions with his new golf complex www.TIGERWOODSDUBAI.com also the Great White Shark has his snout in the trough building a new golf course $$$$$$$$$
John do a google search for DubaiGolf you will find some interesting sites.
Canada Australia New Zealand are great countries to live in as long as you are prepared to work my intention was to go Down Under 34 years on still in Dubai must like the weather.
Oh also played in Lybia in the Saharah Desert 9 hole in the 70's and hell that was sand!!!!!!!

Keith,
We passed through Toronto airport on route back to UK, very nice clean and empty compared to Heathrow. Did not enjoy returning to UK, on arrival at heathrow it was raining and rained all day, and has rained most days since. what has happened to the great British summer???? I'm just pleased that the weather in Canada was hot and dry. The canadians were so friendly and helpful, some brits could learn a few things from them.
Stuart, we will have to get Ray initiated into the game of golf. I managed a few games out in canada, had to tee off at 0615hrs nice and cool before the heat of the day. I think the courses out with Ray lack a bit of the green stuff, only used for the greens.
Regards
John

Keith,
I wish we had had a bit more time in Canada to do the tourist bit. As we went over for my daughters wedding we were based in Saskatoon for the duration. Would loved to have hit the Rocky's. Daughter and Son in Law have plans to return to Blighty next year so will have to try and visit Canada as a normal tourist.
Are you based in Canada or have had the good luck to have worked there for a while.

Hi Mal
We were staying in Cozumel and the place was called 'Chankanaab' which is a National Park where you can swim with Dolphins, which are right next to the Snuba dive area. It cost 60 dollars and you are down for 30 minutes at about 25'-30' deep. I can't do scuba because I tried and could not manage to use the regulator/demand valve. My Wife has sinus problems but always wanted to try it, got the pictures but must say I did enjoy the views. The helmet weighs 70 lbs so you climb down a ladder and they put it on as you decend. They also do Snuba in Bavaro in Dom Rep. Hope that helps you, also there is plenty of info on the web.
All the best
Mike

Evenin' all,a question for Mike Ellis, where were you in Mexico where you did the underwater bit as shown in your photos? We are to the Eldorado resort in July,I can scuba but her indoors can't so would like to try the air fed helmet if possible;grateful for any info.

Steve Yeomans, I know you are out there so how about adding a few words and if possible some old snaps of our time at Chep. I've just about exhausted my supply of old Kodak Instamatic pics, they are all on the site, there must be more out there somewhere. Colin has done a great job getting the site up and running but, there are still several names from the past missing. We will be meeting up at the BOBA reunion in September to reminisce over a few beers, it would make it a much better reunion if a few more of the old faces turned up.
All the best Steve, hope we here from you.

Still here our Clive , Geoff you should have treated yourself to a bottle of Old Pultany Sir Robin Knox Jonstone's Favourate tipple or a Clynelish or Balvenie hic!
How hard did you twist our A/T RSM's arm to put a post on our 66C Website I hope you made him take the Queens Shilling when he was ratted?
I will be out for a sail at the end of the month but looking at the pressure charts at every port of call there wont be a shortage of fresh water but as an optamist I think the sun will be out.
Still no Iranian gas in our pipeline only Nitrogen funny old world and now the Foreign Office have declared the UAE Terrorism Level "HIGH" our friends Al Khyda not getting paid off enough so I will be looking under my bed for funny objects
Bye for now.

Yasu All,
Just got back from Zante Greece, Jen and I had a great time - our third holiday on the island and we are looking forward to returning again next year. There was an earthquake on the mainland while we were there, 6.5 on the Richter scale but it was enough to shake the buildings where were, quite an experience but only a few glasses got smashed, thankfully I had finished my beer. I see Ron Taplins name has appeared, on the site hope you make contact soon Ron, the more the merrier.

Hi All
Just been making a few changes, the stories page is now the members only chat page, as we seem to use it to chat to each other as well as leave stories, also have just had a chat on th instant chat page with Clive and Tt, it works well, so for anyone who is interested Wednesdays at 2000hrs will be chat night, and our Ray, you will have to let us know what time that is over there, so we can get you as well. thats if we can drag you away from the pool and the ice cold beers.
Well take care all
Colin

Hi Barry

Ray, Thanks for the hopeful words. Been to Ripon today. The town is in turmoil with a new road system set up so that a new Supermarket can be built. spent 15 minutes trying to find a route to the barracks as the original roads are either blocked or one way systems. Unfortunately Mal Forder wasn't there but Ray Cave was, so I had a few words with him and Joe Whiston. Watch yourself in the sun Ray, we don't want you frazzling up like a crisp.
RIGards,
Len

Fingers again you must be in a lot of pain Len to miss Ripon Week hope you get sorted ASAP. No I am not on Holiday just doing the secret surfer waiting for new members to log on and remember their ROOTS.
But Tt Mal John Mal Elis could also throw a few in.
Before as a Pioneer at the front end of the Oil & Gas Industry a 12 hour working day was normal in our great summers one would pour the sweat out of our boots. The 3 day job on a Korean Product Oil Tanker offshore Fureriah ended up as a 3 week sail to Bombay in the monsoon season sailing through the suez canal and getting off at Port Said all good fun. I must admit I had a great time on R&R in the far east the hippe beaches of Phuket before Hotels were built were quite a contrast to Oil & Gas Turbine Production Platforms . Still busy but most of the time in the office and do a 8 hr 5 day week unless the shit hits the fan.
Yes Geoff out first Dubai Golf Course was a sand one now the bulldozers are moving it to make way for a huge Horse Race Course Project called Meydan.
Colin Brig Rtd Charles B Telfer CBE has to keep Ragna R shipshape under the Marine rules and regs he keeps her moored up at St Katherines Dock by the Tower Bridge London a great location to sail from he starts his sail to Kiel and the western baltic on 16th June via Amsterdam.
Well off to the gym so I can have a cold one after (earn your beer) we clocked 45C in the shade yesterday. Years ago we slept outside after a long power failure the house was cooking no air moving a bit old fashioned we still has ceiling fans as well as Air Conditioning!
Bye for now
Ray

Hi One and all sorry to hear you missed Rippon Len you must
(Posted on 2008-05-31 05:16:00 by ) -
Hi to one and all,
Sorry I haven't been on the site for a while, but have other things on my mind at present. Colin I have just read the good news of your wife's health. It must have been a hell of a time for herand yourself. I went through the "C" problem with my brother Dave, who was ex 'A' Coy, a few years after us. Unfortunately we lost him. Still having troubles with the old back. Should have gone in for the op at the beginning of the month but two days before they told me that the pre-op examination showed that I had diabetes 2 and that they would n't operate until my blood sugar was down and being managed. I think two ounces of lead behind the earhole might do the trick. Because of the injury I missed the Gibraltar Reunion, the Amphibious AGM in Coventry, I was booked in for Ripon until I got the planned date of the op then cancelled because I should have been convalescing. I am however going to Ripon tomorrow for the Gp Director's Meeting so no doubt will be seeing Mal Forder again. I have tried contacting Dinger Bell on the work's IT system but have had no reply from him as yet.
REgards & RIGards to you all,
Len

Hi Colin/ Clive
Looks like the shy ones are still reluctant to join us which is a great shame as 1 year is nearly up & with 10000 hits just a few names to show. I really enjoy reading the stories and of course the friendly banter. It's great to see the old/new photos of us all just a pity the rest don't want to join in.
Clive, I hope all goes well with your op and wish you a speedy return to health so you can continue your Skydiving.
Best regards to all.
Mike

Mal,I am hoping to get to the Ripon weekend next year and hope to meet up with a few of my old mates from 7 Fld Sqn, I did a split tour with them when they were based in Hohne then moved to Nienberg. I can't remember the exact dates but I think it was in the late 70's, I haven't been in touch with any of them since then so I hope that changes at the REA weekend in 2009. Have you got the dates for that weekend ?, I know some of our branch in Chesterfield have attended so they will probably know.
Regards, Paul.

I am an ex-Royal Engineers (1965 - 1989) and had to give up work in August of 2007 to become a full time carer for my wife who suffers from acute bi-polar disorder. For many years my family friends and colleagues have tried to persuade me to put pen to paper to down some of the many 'stories' I would tell at social and family occasions. They likened my to Unc in only fools and horses! I remember when . . . . Eyes would roll and at least one would say, "Pull up a Sandbag" or "Swing the Lights". However the stories were always funny and I would usually have them rolling in the aisle.
Be great to hear form those that remember me!

The Continuing Story of Our Lad Ricky by
Michael A Ruston
Ricky â The Early Years
I have attempted in my books to give a feel of what life was really like for a military family living below the poverty line in the 1950s and early 1960s. In this, the first of the four books, I detail my life from my earliest memories, through my school days, until I eventually joined the Army in the mid 1960s. You are able to follow the numerous scrapes, incidents and often funny, sometimes tragic situations in which I found myself. Arrested by the RMP three times before reaching the tender age of 7!
Our Lad Ricky
In Our Lad Ricky I write about the several abortive attempts I made to join the Army, always failing due to my apparent weakness and ill health. And how, in desperation, I persuaded my best friend and school chum Ben to travel with me to Queen Street, Wolverhampton and take my entrance medical there on my behalf. The book highlights my hesitant, precarious and often hilarious attempts at turning from boy to man, by learning to be a soldier and how, not just once, but twice, I was almost discharged from the Army as 'Services No Longer required'!
Ricky â Green Beret
In Ricky â Green Beret, I cover the period from my arrival in Germany, through a host of mishaps and personal catastrophes. Ricky, having been betrayed by a friend, which almost resulted in a Court Martial was close to eviction from the Army. Meeting and falling madly in love with a country girl, but was it to be?
And then, quite accidentally, Ricky found himself posted to a Commando Unit forming up in Singapore. Although NOT a volunteer âRickyâ struggled through weeks of âBeat Upâ and following Commando Training at the Commando Training Centre in Lympstone, Devon, to successfully succeed in winning the much coveted Green Beret. Much to his own surprise and the astonishment of comrades, friends and family!
