(Posted on 2008-06-26 06:47:00 by )Hi Mal
We were staying in Cozumel and the place was called 'Chankanaab' which is a National Park where you can swim with Dolphins, which are right next to the Snuba dive area. It cost 60 dollars and you are down for 30 minutes at about 25'-30' deep. I can't do scuba because I tried and could not manage to use the regulator/demand valve. My Wife has sinus problems but always wanted to try it, got the pictures but must say I did enjoy the views. The helmet weighs 70 lbs so you climb down a ladder and they put it on as you decend. They also do Snuba in Bavaro in Dom Rep. Hope that helps you, also there is plenty of info on the web.
All the best
Mike
(Posted on 2008-06-25 19:26:00 by )Evenin' all,a question for Mike Ellis, where were you in Mexico where you did the underwater bit as shown in your photos? We are to the Eldorado resort in July,I can scuba but her indoors can't so would like to try the air fed helmet if possible;grateful for any info.
(Posted on 2008-06-25 18:29:00 by )Steve Yeomans, I know you are out there so how about adding a few words and if possible some old snaps of our time at Chep. I've just about exhausted my supply of old Kodak Instamatic pics, they are all on the site, there must be more out there somewhere. Colin has done a great job getting the site up and running but, there are still several names from the past missing. We will be meeting up at the BOBA reunion in September to reminisce over a few beers, it would make it a much better reunion if a few more of the old faces turned up.
All the best Steve, hope we here from you.

(Posted on 2008-06-15 16:26:00 by )Yasu All,
Just got back from Zante Greece, Jen and I had a great time - our third holiday on the island and we are looking forward to returning again next year. There was an earthquake on the mainland while we were there, 6.5 on the Richter scale but it was enough to shake the buildings where were, quite an experience but only a few glasses got smashed, thankfully I had finished my beer. I see Ron Taplins name has appeared, on the site hope you make contact soon Ron, the more the merrier.

Just been making a few changes, the stories page is now the members only chat page, as we seem to use it to chat to each other as well as leave stories, also have just had a chat on th instant chat page with Clive and Tt, it works well, so for anyone who is interested Wednesdays at 2000hrs will be chat night, and our Ray, you will have to let us know what time that is over there, so we can get you as well. thats if we can drag you away from the pool and the ice cold beers.
Well take care all
Colin

Will be seeing them again next week-end, Golfing Friday & Sat stop over in a place called Staverton Northampton.

(Posted on 2008-06-01 18:55:00 by )Ray, Thanks for the hopeful words. Been to Ripon today. The town is in turmoil with a new road system set up so that a new Supermarket can be built. spent 15 minutes trying to find a route to the barracks as the original roads are either blocked or one way systems. Unfortunately Mal Forder wasn't there but Ray Cave was, so I had a few words with him and Joe Whiston. Watch yourself in the sun Ray, we don't want you frazzling up like a crisp.
RIGards,
Len
(Posted on 2008-05-31 18:45:00 by )Fingers again you must be in a lot of pain Len to miss Ripon Week hope you get sorted ASAP. No I am not on Holiday just doing the secret surfer waiting for new members to log on and remember their ROOTS.
But Tt Mal John Mal Elis could also throw a few in.
Before as a Pioneer at the front end of the Oil & Gas Industry a 12 hour working day was normal in our great summers one would pour the sweat out of our boots. The 3 day job on a Korean Product Oil Tanker offshore Fureriah ended up as a 3 week sail to Bombay in the monsoon season sailing through the suez canal and getting off at Port Said all good fun. I must admit I had a great time on R&R in the far east the hippe beaches of Phuket before Hotels were built were quite a contrast to Oil & Gas Turbine Production Platforms . Still busy but most of the time in the office and do a 8 hr 5 day week unless the shit hits the fan.
Yes Geoff out first Dubai Golf Course was a sand one now the bulldozers are moving it to make way for a huge Horse Race Course Project called Meydan.
Colin Brig Rtd Charles B Telfer CBE has to keep Ragna R shipshape under the Marine rules and regs he keeps her moored up at St Katherines Dock by the Tower Bridge London a great location to sail from he starts his sail to Kiel and the western baltic on 16th June via Amsterdam.
Well off to the gym so I can have a cold one after (earn your beer) we clocked 45C in the shade yesterday. Years ago we slept outside after a long power failure the house was cooking no air moving a bit old fashioned we still has ceiling fans as well as Air Conditioning!
Bye for now

(Posted on 2008-05-31 05:16:00 by )Hi to one and all,
Sorry I haven't been on the site for a while, but have other things on my mind at present. Colin I have just read the good news of your wife's health. It must have been a hell of a time for herand yourself. I went through the "C" problem with my brother Dave, who was ex 'A' Coy, a few years after us. Unfortunately we lost him. Still having troubles with the old back. Should have gone in for the op at the beginning of the month but two days before they told me that the pre-op examination showed that I had diabetes 2 and that they would n't operate until my blood sugar was down and being managed. I think two ounces of lead behind the earhole might do the trick. Because of the injury I missed the Gibraltar Reunion, the Amphibious AGM in Coventry, I was booked in for Ripon until I got the planned date of the op then cancelled because I should have been convalescing. I am however going to Ripon tomorrow for the Gp Director's Meeting so no doubt will be seeing Mal Forder again. I have tried contacting Dinger Bell on the work's IT system but have had no reply from him as yet.
REgards & RIGards to you all,
Len

(Posted on 2008-05-30 16:35:00 by )Hi Colin/ Clive
Looks like the shy ones are still reluctant to join us which is a great shame as 1 year is nearly up & with 10000 hits just a few names to show. I really enjoy reading the stories and of course the friendly banter. It's great to see the old/new photos of us all just a pity the rest don't want to join in.
Clive, I hope all goes well with your op and wish you a speedy return to health so you can continue your Skydiving.
Best regards to all.

(Posted on 2008-05-20 11:07:00 by )Mal,I am hoping to get to the Ripon weekend next year and hope to meet up with a few of my old mates from 7 Fld Sqn, I did a split tour with them when they were based in Hohne then moved to Nienberg. I can't remember the exact dates but I think it was in the late 70's, I haven't been in touch with any of them since then so I hope that changes at the REA weekend in 2009. Have you got the dates for that weekend ?, I know some of our branch in Chesterfield have attended so they will probably know.
Regards, Paul.

(Posted on 2008-05-10 16:15:00 by )Paul, I also hung on to my trade books and glad that I did as I returned to the College in 1981 as a trade Sgt in C Coy. I was sorry to see that the workshops have been pulled down to make way for a veh park. It was only last year that I got rid of a lot of precies ( is that how you spell it ) as I didn't think I would need to service another 19RB crane again, most of them have been scrapped or in musems. I also was awarded my LS & GC at Chep, can't remember which year it was, don't seem to have any photos either. In 82 I was seconded to the RE Diving School to go to the Falklands for 6 months just after the war. In Dec 82 returned to chep and left in 84, posted to 33 Indp Fd Sqn, Antrim. Then thats another story.
Regards John.
PS, I also have a AAC cap badge.

Glad to hear your great news, it must be a relief to you all. You are right to praise the NHS staff, they do a wonderful job.
(Posted on 2008-05-08 04:02:00 by )Hi all
Just had to pass on some great news, for the past 7 months my wife Pam has been fighting cancer of the throat and as you can appreciate can cause absolute desperation to a family, well today we got the results of her final scan and I'm glad to say, Pam is now clear of cancer, so when you think all is lost, just remember miracles do happen with the help of dedicated staff NHS staff and support from many other friends , family and all of you that passed on your support and best wishes, sorry, but I had to get that off my chest.
take care all

(Posted on 2008-05-06 01:55:00 by )Hi Paul and John the only thing i have hung onto from my time at Beachley is my twin brother Colin and loads of memories lol.
Thanks for sending in the copy of the passing out parade it made good reading ,when Colin and myself were at the last reunion we found out that two Bridgemans passed into Beachley but only one passed out so one of us is still trapped in the camp somewhere ?
You mentioned a drill stick when i was a shipwright at Marchwood we used to have Sgt Majors coming in with just the brass furniture for the pace sticks and wanted to know if we could make them new ones what a job that was.
Paul you are going to the reunion this year i believe thats only 4 months away now it will soon be upon us.
Well hope to speak to you soon i will send my phone number via an email if you ever want to give me a call, i talk to Stu Jupp normally on a weekly basis and am in contact with Colin every day thats why Ray Allen says that Colin and Clive will pick and follow things up from different comments that any of the group have made.
So cheerio for now all the best Clive.
(Posted on 2008-05-05 18:16:00 by )John just like you I have still got my original Button Stick plus loads of memorabilia including 38 pattern belt which is currently black but has traces of green and blanco still on it. I also have my first AAC Cap badge with Yellow J Coy yellow disc and all my trade books, I have even managed to hang on to my drill cane from my days at Cove as a training NCO. Most of all I've hung on to my memories, happy days.
Regards to all, Paul
(Posted on 2008-05-05 17:09:00 by )Colin,
Glad you could make use of the Passing Out Program. Have sent you a few more photos, didn't have as many as I thought. Whilst rumaging through the attic I came across my old army suit case, the (one and only that I was issued with) which I keep all the Sqn photos that every one gets from time to time and came upon my house wife and button stick. Has any other sad members kept on to some momentos over the years. Have just sent my Army rain coat to charity, used many times dressing up as Frank Spencer at some of the Mess functions.
Les,
Email adderss is correct, have replied to you through Outlook.
Regards to all,

(Posted on 2008-04-28 08:57:00 by )Noticed that Ripon weekend is quite popular among us, I go every year despite rumours that every one will be the last one. As I am a member of South Humberside Branch REA, I travel up on the Friday, pick up the lads from Scunthorpe then go of up to Ripon for a great Weekend. I would reccommend it to anyone who has not made the journey north. Len I will touch base with you then as I know you, having attended many REA do's over the years. Not long to go now.

(Posted on 2008-04-28 08:20:00 by )Hi John, jus received an email from Colin so popped over to the site to check out your item. Yes I remember the episode well and I can't push the blame for it on to someone else, It was my idea as I knew the area (not well enough obviously). We didn't get very far as I remember, It was as though they were waiting for us.
Even more embarrassing was the fact that my old man was a Major serving there as well, as SO2 Engr.
I guess this is just one episode in many in our long carreers and another really embarassing point is that many years later I returned to LM as SSM EBW and got to know the MOD Police guys quite well and happened to mention this incident one night in the mess and the very guy who nearly let hid wolf hound gorge us to death was there. I am that man he said. Needless to say I remained very good friends with him (and his dog) ever since.
I hope all is well with you and yours and look forward to attending BOBA this year all being well.
Keep in touch.

(Posted on 2008-04-26 20:39:00 by )Colin & Ray,I have had a look for some photos, only came up with a few from J Coy camp, need to scan them. I'm sure I must have some more somewhere. Whilst checking our 66C 1969 group photo something made me take off the back of the frame. Behind it I found a copy of our Pass Off Parade programme for 5th Aug, Church service for 3rd Aug, a copy of my membership to BOBA and the Kemmer Club.
I did attend a BOBA week end in 1978 whilst on my Storeman Tech course at Stratford. Les Philpot and I travelled down together. Les if you are still around, do you remember our first weekend of the course. As we had arrived early from BAOR we got invited to a civie staff club at the back of the camp on Sat night and when the time came to leave someone suggested that instead of walking around the fence we would climb this eight foot fence and take a short cut. Well after eight + pints a challenge is a challenge, only once inside we were confronted by a civie guard with a huge alsation dog. Even with eigh+ pints you don't argue with a war dog. After a word with the orderly sgt we were sent to bed. Sunday we didn't think it was such a good idea, hindsight is a wonderful thing. Monday morning and the course started and we were duly called to the RSM's office, well we got such a bollicking it took all my strenght to keep my anal muscels in place. We were allowed to continue the course only if we kept our noses clean. Les, who was the other person who came with us, wasn't it his suggestion to break into camp.

However those in the know will recall that my real name is Stewart Aitken.
With regard to the Ripon weekend this will be my first visit, I am going for the Saturday afternoon as 7 Sdn. is having a reunion in the Cpls Mess. The current & Sdn is returning to Ripon in the Autumn when the Regt's change over.
I have managed to get a taxi that can transport my electric wheels so I am relatively mobile once again.

(Posted on 2008-04-26 04:36:00 by )Hi all
Glad to see that you are all registering to the part of the site that is 66c members only, one thing to bear in mind is that some of you have registered using user names other than your real names, so it might be an idea to sign off with your name so that other users know who is who, only a sugestion, as i am getting e mails asking who is who.
take care all

(Posted on 2008-04-25 20:04:00 by )Is anyone going to the Ripon weekend?
(Posted on 2008-04-25 19:19:00 by )Colin, I welcome your move for site security, in this day of Spam, Spam and more Spam one can not be too careful. Talking of Spam, we were brought up on Spam of the meat sort that is, brings back memories. Talking of memories, to thoes who remember me sorry for taking so long in visiting the guestbook. I have tried in the past but it always seems to be filled up by some chap called Ray. How he manages to get any work done out there I don't know. Joking apart Ray has been a great ambassador for the site, keep it up. I spent a wonderful week last year with Ray sailing the Danish waters in Ragna R. It was a very fluid week. Kiel is very dear to me as I had two postings there, once to the Diving wing as a Cpl and then just before I left as the Wo2 in charge of the RE Workshop. I left after 22 years and have wonderful memories of my time at Chepstow, too numerous to mention in this first visit. To all mates of C Coy hope you are all in good health and have all done well in your time whilst serving and since leaving the mob.
Colin your doing a great job with the 66c site, keep up the good work. John Barry

Again in 1974 we (19 Sqn)
were doing work, mainlysurveying, out there just before the Turks invaded and had a few run ins with the Greek militia in the hills-hard to believe now looking at the holiday brochures!Keep taking the tablets lads!

Yes Mike you will enjoy Mexico watch out for the worms in your Tequella and those red hot chilleys!
(Posted on 2008-04-20 16:47:00 by )Hey Ray
Just realised I spent six weeks at RAF Akrotiri on exercise when I was attached to 19 Fld Amb, could only work till mid day, too hot after that, then done a few exercises running up and down mountains with a Bren gun, just outside Episkapi, glad when that bit was over, but do remember the afternoons on the beach and the evenings down in Limosol, probably the best six weeks I spent in the Army, that was in Sept 1975. Then returned in 2000 for holiday, boy had the place changed, Paphos was a small fishing harbour, not anymore, it has grown and is one of the most friendly places on the Ilsland. Where did you build that swimming pool Ray? Mike you have to make it one of the next places to visit, enjoy your Mexican hol. Thinking of it, maybe Ray can put us all up at his place, a 66c reunion in the sun, how are you are BBQ's Ray ?
Take care all
Colin
(Posted on 2008-04-20 16:26:00 by )Hi Mike Attwell has just reminded me when I threw a mop at Les Hoffman from the window ledge in C Coy late at night!
Les came into our room with his Dad and some members of our group had requested that the juniors clean the rooms. So we got extra drill. I had just come in from J Company totally innocent!
C Coy sent Les to Coventry and he was back partied but Les passed out with us and he came sailing to the baltic as the Piper. One hot sunny day in Copenhagen Lt Col Stan Townsend left us to our own devises where we all got ratted on Elephant beer in the yacht Club. Les jumped off the jetty into Stans dinghy which was swamped and we had to winch Les out as he was so heavy! I managed to get everything shipshape before Stan came back everyone fast asleep with hangovers! When we cast off the next day the Harbour Master had a word in Stans ear!!!!!!!
(Posted on 2008-04-20 16:19:00 by )Hi Colin/Geoff I hope our A/T RSM does us proud and puts a few posts up!!!!!
(Posted on 2008-04-20 15:46:00 by )Hi Mike I was a lucky one to get to Crypus in the Mob from Tidworth! We went to build a swimming pool Paddy Rainey also. We came back with good sun tans and yes plently of KEO BEER and KEBABS oh also lots of ORANGES . Yes Colin I also did a lot of sailing great place great time!
(Posted on 2008-04-20 15:41:00 by )Hi Pete yes I remember A coy lugging the Cannon I dont think the Pharos would have employed you!
Col Tomes OBE was the Commandant then good guy always came to the the apprentices canteen for breakfast on passing out parade day!
We then had the first Sapper CO Col Jumbo Thomas OBE served with the gurkas I sailed with him a few times another great man!
(Posted on 2008-04-20 15:32:00 by )Hi Geoff
Pleased you had a great time in Cyprus its a place I have never managed to get to yet! I think Scullian(Air Surveyer)was the only one in our group who managed to get a chushy posting to there back in1970.
I remember Ady Pickin as we both played in the College Hockey team along with Dave who was a great all round sportsman. Is ChrisJervis(Jarvis)the same who used to play in goal? I think he came from Stamford. If it is please pass on my best wishes to him & of course to Dave &Ady.
Last time I saw Ady was back in Germany at a party which I remember very little about!! I do remember his smash up on his 'Rocket' motor bike leaving him with a very bad injury to his arm. In fact I think Dave may have been in same crash? Did you ever get in touch with Al Jones?
I shall be off for some R&R in 2 weeks to Mexico so I guess there may be a few slammers to be had.
Regards to all.
Mike

(Posted on 2008-04-20 11:26:00 by )Hi All
Cyprus, now your talking, in 2000 my wife got a phone call from a Cyriot lady claiming to be her sister, turns out that Pam's father who had devourced when Pam was 3 yrs old had gone to Cyprus and remarried, he had since died, but the family had been looking for Pam for over 20yrs, the result was Pam has 5 brothers and three sisters in Paphos, not to say we have been regular visitors to Paphos twice a year since and you cannot beat the Keo beer, ice cold, have booked again to go in October. Well must say the site still seems to be doing well, just over 7000 hits and over 180 photos now being viewed, and thats thanks to you all for contributing, mind you there are still a few out there who have not sent an uptoday picture, so do not be shy and for those who do not have scanners, you can send me photos in the post and I promise to return them ASAP, also I am aware that some do not want their e mail addresses shown, again not a problem, it is not a condition and you can still use the site and send your photos, well better get off my rostrum and let you lot continue with your chats.
take care all
Colin
